This house is a country retreat, place to work and entertain for a male couple - a musician and academic. It provides settings for everyday domestic activities as well as places of contemplation, study, entertainment and work, characterized through orchestrated views and relationship to the landscape. The house is cut into the earth and protected from winter winds by a thick rubble wall.  A more basic 'barn-like' building provides guest accommodation for regular visitors.
